Josh Frizzell

Director and 8 co owner, Josh Frizzell was born into a creative family of artists and bohemian personalities in that antipodean melting pot renowned the world over for its unique creative achievements, New Zealand.

His first foray into the film industry was as an art director on alternative feature films in the late 80s. He directed his first music video in the early 90s and in 1994 won Best Director and Best Music Video at the NZ Film and Television Awards. In 1995 he again won Best Music Video and turned his talent to commercials, immediately collecting a Bronze Lion at Cannes in 1996, amongst a swag of other awards that year.

Since then Frizzell has established himself as a serious player in the commercials industry. He is highly sought after in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. His work crosses a broad mix of styles, combining strong performance & comedic direction with unique, tailor made visuals, giving credence to the strong heritage of art in his background via the classic saying, “every one’s an original”.

Josh has also directed some TV drama in his native New Zealand: ‘The Amazing Extraordinary Friends’, a childrens program chronicling the adventures of a modern day teenage superhero and his friends; ‘Go Girls’, a drama/comedy series about love, friendship and (bottle) blonde ambition; and ‘Nothing Trivial’, about the lives and loves of a pub quiz team.

Josh has worked for clients including Coca Cola, Energizer, Sony, Woolworths, MLC, Suzuki, Tui Brewery, Air New Zealand, Hahn, Toyota, Whirlpool, Country Energy, Optus and Crown Casino.
